However, the operating systems that browsers run on were designed in an era where there was no web.

And as we did for the Google Chrome browser, we are going back to the basics and completely redesigning the underlying security architecture of the OS so that users don't have to deal with viruses, malware and security updates.

The software architecture is simple — Google Chrome running within a new windowing system on top of a Linux kernel.

My first reaction was thinking this was going to be a glorified linux distro. Then I remembered that a "new windowing system" running on top of an older kernel sums up Mac OS X (along with a ton of new APIs and different way to package applications). So maybe this has more potential than I assumed.

I have to wonder if "Google Chrome running within a new windowing system" means something more than an SDL version of their browser. How much of linux will they use? Just the kernel? Filesystems? Filesystem layouts? How does that get around security updates for the browser/OS?

Viruses could still target this system. Phishing and Cross-site scripting will have a bigger emphasis. Change the mousetrap, expect the mice to change.

More questions than answers I'm afraid.
